Well, hello and congratulations bride-to-be! You are about to embark on one of the most exciting journeys in your life. Part of this journey is getting that ideal wedding dress. Here are some essential tips we have to assist you in this beautiful chapter of your life.
1. Choose a dress that fits your personality
Ever heard of the saying, “match the Inside with the Outside”? Your dress should be reflective of who you are as an individual, the real you. Choose texture, patterns, fabric that you connect with.
Which type of neckline do you prefer? Some of the common ones are:
- Sweetheart
- V-neck
- Strapless
- Scoop
- Halter
Which dress style resonates with you the most?
- A-line
- Big princess ball gown
- Trumpet & Mermaid
What about works on the dress? This is important because it is these small details that express your personality style:
- Do you like beaded lace?
- Do you like soft lace?
- Do you like lace appliqué?
- Do you like detailed lace?
- Are you more of a fan of crepe or tulle?
- Do you prefer the flow of chiffon or organza?
- Do you like the twinkle and sparkle of bling?
Remember you need to feel comfortable in your wedding dress. What we are looking at is making sure your wedding dress captures your true essence.
2. Be Open-Minded
Before going for your wedding dress shopping, you will definitely have some ideas on what you want which is completely natural. However, be open minded too. As important as it is to share your vision with the bridal dress consultant, it is also nice to listen to your consultant’s ideas.
Step out of your comfort zone and experiment with the dresses the consultant suggests. With certain dresses, they do not necessarily look fantastic on a coat hanger but the beauty of the dress shines when worn. You are not obligated to wear the dress the consultant is suggesting but there is no harm in trying. You will be pleasantly surprised when you see yourself in the mirror with a dress which you never thought would suit you.
At Rosa & Mary’s Bridal we dig deep into the heart and soul of the bride. It is our goal to get to know you “the bride” and make all your dreams and visions come to life. We pride ourselves on allowing you to have the freedom to express ideas and having us by your side to guide you with our expert skills how to achieve your dream.
3. Be focused and not over shop
We see this a lot with our brides-to-be, the tendency to over shop. We understand that this is a huge decision to make because it is once in a lifetime and you want your dress to be remembered in years to come. However, when you have too many options on your plate, you can get overwhelmed and confused which can subsequently lead to feelings of frustration.
At the same time, from a practical point of view, you have other wedding details to focus on as well, so you do not want to be stuck on choosing the wedding dress for months. It is good to ask yourself a couple of questions prior to your shopping. Are you looking at bridal chain stores or small boutiques? How far are you willing to travel to shop for your dream dress?
We suggest:
- Selecting a few specific stores to visit
- Making all your appointments close to these shops within a couple of weeks
- Bringing a mood board with you which has all the requirements you have in mind so that this makes it easier for your bridal dress consultant to assist you
- Making a shortlist of the dresses you liked in each of the stores visited and if necessary, make a second trip to the stores again to assist you in decision making
Remember no one else has seen all the other dresses you have tried on. Love your dress and everyone will love you in your dress.
4. Think twice about online shopping
With online shopping for bridal dresses increasing in this technological, era, we are not surprised if you are considering it too but think from this angle. The beauty of being in a bridal store is that you get the opportunity to put the dress back on the shelf and select the next one. This is missed when you decide to buy online. Furthermore, getting your dress sized correctly is important and this is not possible with online shopping.
If you are not careful, you could possibly regret the purchase and may have to spend extra to get a new dress. Your wedding day is the time to be a little extra and shine. Do this for yourself and go shop at bridal stores directly to get the full experience.
5. Enjoy the journey
Lastly, from your engagement to the wedding day, there will be lots of big and little decisions. Sometimes you become overwhelmed /bogged down with every little detail. Just remember this is one of the most joyful times in your life. So enjoy and remember the bigger picture, it is a celebration of your lives together.
